RAREc1890 BETJEMANN'S PATENT SALESMAN'S SAMPLE TANTALUS ORIG CUT GLASS DECANTERS. Listed this week is an Amazing assortment of Sterling and Solid Silver from all over the world.

This is one of our finest collections to date including some very Rare Georg Jensen examples etc. Also we have listed some fabulous Estate Treasures including fine Bronze Statues, Boxes, Paintings, Chinese and Japanese Arts and much, much more! I quickly researched Betjemann's Patent and found from 1859 George William Betjemann and John Betjemann, started to take the art of cabinet and box making to new creative heights.

Under the business name of George Betjemann & Sons, they began to patent their innovative designs and mechanisms, including "The Tantalus". This is an exact copy of the larger model that they were so famous for, but in a much smaller scale that could be used by Salesmen as a Sample. The Tantalus is Nickel Silver with nice Brass Rope designs and a dark stained wood interior. The Cut Glass Decanters are 100% for sure the originals, I found Patent design drawings of similar Betjemann Tantaluses with these exact Decanters. The Tantalus is also fully marked as seen in the photos. The Tantalus displays very nicely with some signs of use and I believe the locking mechanism is missing. The Decanters also show some small chips throughout plus one has a repaired lip and one has a chunk out of the base, but none of this is really noticeable when on display.

The Tantalus measures just 9-1/2" long by 4-1/4" wide and sits only 7" tall with the Decanters measuring just 5-1/4" tall by 1-3/8 wide. BEST OF LUCK WITH THE AUCTIONS!
