Rare Poland Spring Three-Sided Decanter c. 1900 Designed by Nettie Ricker

We will be closing our doors within the next year or two, so keep an eye out for new listings as we go through our inventory. Poland Spring Collection: Rare Three-Sided Decanter. This piece is from Pal Vincents Poland Spring Museum, which once held the largest collection of Poland Spring Moses Bottles in the world as well as other Poland Spring memorabilia. In the coming months much of this collection will be listed for sale.
This bottle was in use in the dining rooms, reading and retiring rooms before 1906. This triangular decanter was designed by Miss Nettie Ricker, who designed a great many pieces used in the hotel. The decanter is clear ribbed glass with a flat panel on each of the three sides embossed with a secene from the complex: The Mansion House, The Poland Spring Hotel, and an early crude spring building.
The glass stopper has an embossed ox head to commemorate the famous ox cure, which was a legend regarding the curative powers of Poland Water. The legend goes that a sickly ox was put out to pasture and was miraculously cured after he drank Poland Water.Not a great many of these bottles have survived, the triangular shape made them prone to crack or chip when struck, even light, against another bottle or a glass. Please excuse the quality of the pictures as this was an exceptionally difficult piece to photograph. The bottle with the stopper is 11.
