Magnificent Dorflinger ABP Marlboro Pattern Cut Glass Claret Wine Decanter
This is a gorgeous cut glass claret wine decanter from the American Brilliant Period. There are no chips, cracks or repairs and the glass is crystal clear. It is 12 tall to the tip of the stopper and weighs just under 4 lbs. This is ABP cutting at its best. Zipper cuts start at the rim and flow down the long neck to the shoulder where they separate the panel cuts that encircle it. The body is cut into a pattern of fans and strawberry diamonds separated by a cut star. This sequence is repeated 3 times around the body.
The large curved handle is a work of art. It has a thumb rest followed by a fan that matches those on the body. The main part of the handle is entirely cut into a pattern of strawberry diamonds followed by another fan at the bottom of the handle. The handle is perfectly attached without any heat check issues. The base of the decanter is cut into a massive, intricate star the covers the entire bottom of the decanter.
It is one of the most beautiful star designs I have seen. There is very minimal shelf ware. The stopper is faceted and fits perfectly.
