Antique Oak Tantalus, Daniel And Arter Silver Plated
A fine Edwardian Tantalus made by Daniel and Arter London containing three hobnail cut glass decanters with starburst bases. The centre decanter is a very close match with a very slightly shorter neck which is not obvious. The decanters have no damage. The stoppers are all good, one stopper base is slightly shorter and has a few chip and nibbles, the other two stopper bases have minor nibbles, unnoticeable when in place and does not distract from the appearance of this handsome piece.
The small key works in the following way, when in the lock the decanter is locked, By removing the key the decanter is opened by pushing down on the double lever spring lock mechanism. There is some wear to the silver plating, but again quite normal for a piece of this age. All in all, a very collectable and useable Tantalus! 15 inches (38cm) wide at the base and 12.5 inches (32cm) to the top of the handle.
