It has a wonderful, dark oak finish with evidence of old plugs and patches and is sturdy and usable. You will note a bad spot on the back edge of the lid revealing old (inactive) insect damage and the bottom was replaced (with antique oak) in the early 1900s. The 4 polygonal bottles fit the interior in such a manner they leave the central square space for their companion and all of the bottles have pontil marks on the bottoms and hand applied hand formed necks as well as simple cut stoppers.
The inside is a little ugly, with worn remnants of 19th c. Red felt and exposed wood on the inner dividers. There are missing corner spacers (felt covered triangular pieces of wood) and one of the stoppers doesnt want to leave the decanter. The lid has an historic (probably Victorian) engraved brass name plate, Rev.
