Antique 1840s Cut Glass Decanter Holyrood Gothic Revival Scots Baronial Style

  
Cut in the Gothic Revival style in a similar manner as the cut decanters illustrated in the circa 1840+ Holyrood Glassworks catalog John Ford and Co. The quality of the glass metal is excellent. The glass is thick and heavy and the mitre cuts are deep and well polished. In fact, all cuttings are polished to a very high degree. There are no striations and no evidence of 20th Century diamond wheel cuttings etc. This is a gorgeous mid 19th Century decanter cut in Gothic Revival style. Size : 13" tall (10" stopper removed), 4.5 diameter widest point. Very good condition for age.

It has age appropriate scuffs and scratches on the foot bottom. It has one small frit on the edge of the rim (photographed). The glass is bright and clear, not sick or cloudy.

It has a little residue in the inside bottom only. The glass metal is water clear, of excellent quality. Both stopper and bottle are marked with the number "3". The stopper has some use-wear as shown in the photographs. The stopper is original and fits perfectly. The pontil on the foot bottom is star cut. The foot is ground flat in a manner so that the bottle sits on the outside edge of the cut star only. A very nice old glass decanter! As always due to age and prior usage, the item may have slight imperfections such as minor scuffs, scratches, trim wear, and/or slight manufacturing defects.
