19c Mahogany Tantalus/Decanter Box Lock & Key

  
A fabulous 19c solid mahogany tantalus/decanter box housing four half hobnail decanters C1870. The decanters are in good order with only one stopper having a few nibbles at the bottom and all collars are fine with no chips or cracks. They are all full size 9 inches high[23cm] x 3.5 ins square[9cm] with canted corners, star cut bases, and facet stoppers with one being a replacement which has a slightly lower border band to the body but same style and period. The interior has had the old tatty velvet lining replaced with a similar type and looks wonderful.

It has its original working lock and key and brass top flush handle with brass side plate handles. Box measures 11 inches high[28cm] x 9.5 ins square[24cm]. The cabinet has a superb colour and patina with the usual odd mark and knocks. With age and use but as the photo's show it is generally very good. There is an old shrinkage crack to the top of the lid but is solid and not open and mentioned for accuracy.
