Antique Victorian Set 3 Cut Glass Spirit Decanter on Silver Plated Steel Stand
Antique Victorian Set 3 Cut Glass Spirit Decanter on Silver Plated Steel Stand Circa 1880. A most attractive set of three antique cut glass spirit decanters or serving bottles with a beautifully cut design. And named silver plated and cork stoppers. On decorative an antique silver plated stand.
The three decanters or serving bottles have thumb cut shoulders and necks, flute cutting interspersed with a North star or repeating T shaped. Each has a cork stopper with a silver plated ring handle engraved with Gin, Rum and Whiskey. The bases have ground pontils The decanters date from around 1880 - the Victorian period and are in very good, usable pieces as well as highly decorative. The stand has a pierced gallery with a scrolling gadrooned rim and three paw type feet. There is a central cartouche to the front of one of the bottle holders, engraved with the initials that we think are ELS.
The base where the decanters sit is probably a ferrous metal possibly steel for strength, the sides appear to be something like a strong pewter. The handle is cast metal and is soldered into place. The set is in good antique condition. The glass decanters or serving bottles are in very good condition, some very minor staining to the bottoms no chips cracks nor damage. The cork stoppers look to have been replaced on two, one has lost the original plated top. The plate on the stand has worn in some parts and the base metal is showing through. It could probably be re-plated if so desired. The stands is 18 inches high and is 8 inches wide. It is a heavy, good quality item and weighs a total of 2774g unpacked. This is a lovely piece - highly decorative as well as very useful, especially when they are full! Please see my other antique glassware items listed for sale this week including more decanters.
