A WMF Spirit Decanter Bottle c1895
A WMF spirit decanter Date : 1886- 1903 Origin : Gelsingen, Germany Bowl Features : Chrome green glass engraved with flowers. Silver plate mounts Marks : WMF EP IO OX. There is no "ostrich mark" this was not introduced until 1902/3 Type : Metal overlay glassware Size : Height 24cm Condition : Very good. No chips or cracks, the silver plate is a little worn. It was never intended to be a bright polished finish.
The OX indicates that it was oxidised to give an "antique finish" when new Restoration : None Weight : 533 grams. Whiplash handle and not a straight line in view. I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971. My career took a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became head of the Decorative Arts department.
