3 Decanter TANTALUS Vintage Silver Plate Hobnail Cut Glass Atkin Bros Hallmark

  

For sale is a beautiful and unusual TANTALUS with 3 heavy hobnail cut glass decanters. The silver plate tantalus is slightly tarnished and pitted but this does not detract from the elegance of this piece. Solid metal basket perched on 8 bun feet.

The front of the Tantalus has an integral shaped presentation mount. There are 3 hobnail cut glass decanters with the most amazing cut glass stoppers - 2 decanters in perfect condition - one has a chip on the neck - see picture for details. There is a lock but unfortunately no key.

Hall marked EPNS and stamped on the base with the number 3872 and the silversmiths mark for the Atkin Brothers. HA EA FA is the Atkin Brothers (Sheffield) Silver Plate Mark. The Atkin Brothers consisted of Henry, Edward and Frank. They took over their father's, Henry Atkin's Spoon Making Company, on his death.

The Atkin Brothers produced a variety of good quality items in silver and silver plate. The tantalus measures 31 cm long, 10 cm wide and 30 cm high including handle. Has been in the family for some time and would think it dates from early 20th century approx 1910/1920.
